So, what happens when an Art Historian and an English Professor rent a warehouse and open a yoga studio? Home Yoga Studios happens. Built out of love, family, home, and yoga tradition, Katlyn and Scott have worked tirelessly since opening their first location in Costa Mesa, CA in 2018 with a stubborn determination to build a space that welcomes all. There’s a cliche in surfing that applies here: “the greatest surfer is the one that is having the most fun.” At Home Yoga, we believe that the most accomplished yogi is the one who experiences Home.
The idea is that when you come here, you are a part of a family, which, for us, is so much more meaningful than a community. It sounds strange in today’s lingo, but what we mean is that we wish with all of our hearts that the entire community will become a family and our yoga studio your home.
Home Yoga was founded on what many would call “naive” intentions. We are here to provide a sincere, joy-driven practice based on family, home, and tradition. Our yoga space is meant to reflect the idea that it is home for everyone. There may be flaws as we become our more perfect selves, but there will always be room for you here at Home.
The heart of Home Yoga’s mission is to provide an atmosphere of family, and creating that warm feeling of coming home. And this is not like coming home for Thanksgiving only to hear your crazy Uncle Fred’s voice screaming at the television news. This is a place where family comes first and almost everybody is family.
Upon entering Home Yoga, we know that you will feel the difference from other studios. Although we are not yoga prudes and we refuse to slip into dogmas and illogic (no wookie-wookie magic-mages here!), we honor the tradition of yoga, a tradition that goes to prehistoric times. We also honor the diversity of the tradition.
We honor tradition and family with a playful practice, a joyful inquiry, not one of perfection. Our classes invite curiosity and experimentation, keeping the room low‑pressure and welcoming for everybody. Play balances reverence with creative, lived practice so your mat feels like both practice and playground.
